Essential oils are derived from the leaves, berries, flowers, petals, twigs, bark, or stems of plants and usually inherit the scent or flavor of the particular plant. They are highly concentrated at that stage, so smaller amounts are used in soaps and lotions. When buying natural products, one should always test a small patch of skin first for sensitivity to oils.
