Our Process The Base & The Gourmet JUST ONE FAT or oil on its own is not likely to serve your needs. A carefully calculated combination of fats and oils yields a superior bar of soap. THE BASE of the soap consists of coconut oil for lather, palm oil for the hardening, a sodium hydroxide mixture, olive oil for the moisture and a combination of Grapefruit seed extract and Rosemary seed extract, which are natural preservatives for a long shelf life. THE GOURMET bars of soap consist of the base ingredients with less olive oil to include a mixture of the more moisturizing oils, such as Sweet Almond oil, Apricot Kernel oil, Kukui Nut oil or Jojoba oils. All of the bars classified as gourmet bars are "super fatted" with Shea Butter, Jojoba or Kukui Nut oils depending on which bar is being made. The essential oils are then added for their scent and redeeming qualities. 
The Oils and Their Qualities:
Olive Oil – is a very good moisturizer. It attracts external moisture, holds moisture close to the skin and forms a breathable film to prevent loss of internal moisture. Olive oil does not block the natural functions of the skin while performing its own function.
Sweet Almond Oil – excellent emollient. It softens and soothes skin as well as conditions. Kukui Nut Oil – is easily absorbed by the skin. This oil benefits acne, eczema and psoriasis. It also helps soothe sunburn and chapped skin. Jojoba Oil – is basically a liquid wax. It resists rancidity and is also a moisturizer and humectent. It is greaseless lubrication holding in internal moisture while attracting external moisture. Healthy skin receives a regular flow of sebum, which lubricates and softens skin and traps bacteria that we later wash away with soap. Jojoba contains more than four times the waxy esters found within human sebum. A thin breathable layer of Jojoba oil can regulate the flow of our natural sebum while controlling evaporation and dryness. Shea Butter – Is a moisturizer and nourishes the skin. This oil is gentle enough for babies and people with sensitive skin. It soothes and softens dry chapped skin while nourishing all skin types. |
